A village market is a place where different kinds of things and goods are sold and bought. The market has come into being out of the need for satisfying varied wants. Really a village market is very essential to the life of the village.
Although a village market is very common to the villager is
as essential for them as the sun for the day. It is a public place in a
village. It is in fact. A meeting place for producers. Dealers and consumers.
There are two kinds of village markets in Bangladesh one
sides daily, called the ‘Bazaar’ and the other sits periodically called the
‘Hut’ .The Bazaar sits in the morning while the hut sits in the afternoon.
Because each market differs from another. I am
giving the description of one which I know. There is a big market in our
village lakhikul. It is situated on the bank of the padma which flows by the
south of the village. There are many permanent shops in the market. But the
temporary shops are much bigger in number than the permanent ones.
The market sits every morning and breaks up before noon. Of
course, The permanent shops remain open from morning till 10.O’cock at night.
The permanent shops usually sell cloths and readymade
garments, rice, kerosene oil, sweetmeats, stationery and grocery articles. Other commodities such as fish, meat,
milk, vegetables etc. are sold in the
temporary shops.
Sellers begin to gather in the market place early in the
morning. Their shops are arranged in
order of the things they sell. The vegetable shops sit at one place, the
village market. Because the prices are not fixed and the sellers
usually demand much higher prices. The price is settled after much bargaining
from both sides.
A village market has many drawbacks. It creates botheration
to the villagers. So these drawbacks must be removed for the betterment of the
villagers.
If a village market is well arranged and free from
botheration the villages will be benefited well. so it is expected that a village market should
be at the best service of the villagers.
We buy all our things from the market. The sellers come from
the neighboring villages. The local fishermen and cultivators find a good scope
for selling their things. Many other local people also earn their living by
buying and selling various things in the market. We cannot do without the
market.
