PROBLEMS OF HIGH PRICES OF GOODS IN BANGLADESH

Bangladesh is a new born independent state. She is now under a grip of acute economic crisis. The prices of essential commodities are increasing by leaps and bounds. The middle class people, low income group, the labor class people and the people of daily necessaries such as rice, clothe, fuel, soap etc. have risen in abnormal way. The prices of these things have gone beyond the purchasing capacity of the middle class people and toiling millions of our country.
The prices of rice, milk, baby food, old, and sugar, salt and construction materials have gone so high that the people of the low income cannot buy them regularly. The prices of other commodities have gone up in the similar way. It makes the cost of living of the people too high to imagine.
(a)    There are many reasons for the high prices of goods in the country. In every year there is a shortage of food on account of natural calamities such as cyclone, flood, tornado, etc. the damage done by the Pakistani soldiers is another cause for the scarcity of goods in the country.
(b)   The bad communication system has also been a major factor for the current economic crisis in our country. Shortages of wagons and operational staff have hundred the speedy movement of commodities to the deficit areas.
(c)    Hoarding has become an important reason for soaring price level. Smugglers and black marketers have created various problems in the country. A section of black marketers earn high black money creating manifold problems in the society. Goods of daily necessaries are available in the market at a high price. But its trace is not found when it is forced to sale at fair price.
(d)   The most important factor of high prices of goods is that shortage of supply due to low production. Sudden break of trade links with different countries has added to the present.
