Man cannot survive without food. He wade his first weapon to hunt animals. These hunting animals served as food for eating. When we invented fire. he started to change his lot. but as a matter of fact ,he found to cut the ways of cultivation. and thus he settled, it is not known what man cultivated first . But food habit of Bangladesh people shows that their forefathers harvested rice first. It is still our staple food. In Bangladesh rice grows in plenty .But it is not sufficient to meet the need.

It grows well in a warm. moist climate, It grows in plenty in Bangladesh, India , Burma, China,Japan, and other countries of South East  Asia. The United States of America grows plenty of paddy.

Rice paddy generally looks yellow. we get rice by hasking paddy with the wooden pedal called Dhenki or in the hasking mill. when the paddy is dried in the sun and then husked for rice . It is called sunned or atap rice.  When paddy is first boiled and then dried and  husked . it is called or boiled or siddha rice

Rice is the main food of the people of the Bangladesh . Muri(fried rice) khai ( fried paddy) and chira (flatted paddy) are made from it . they are favorite of the people of this land. Many kinds of cakes are also made from the rice powder . polaw . khichuri and payas are also  made from rice on festive occassion . straw is used for feeding our cattle. It is also  used as fuel.

Rice is the most popular food crop of Bangladesh . It is produced  here in plenty . It is popular diet of Bangladesh ;Rice is boiled and taken with vegetables . fish or meat curry and dal . the meals of the poor consist of only boiled rice with salt or chilly . Bangladesh has become almost self sufficient in rice formerly it had to import 30 lac tons of rice every year. Recently it has reduced to 15 lac tons . We should pay more attention to become self sufficient in rice . The people of Bangladesh cannot do without rice even for a day.
