A village fair

A village fair is a source of great attraction to the village people. Fancy goods utensils, toys and sweets are generally sold in a village fair.   Village people, especially the children eagerly wait for the holding of the fair to buy those goods.

A village fair is held on some occasion or other. It is generally held on the Bengali New year’s day.  In some villages it is held on the last day of pous month of Bengali calendar. It generally lasts for a day or two. In some cases it lasts even for a week.
 
A village fair is marked by a type of village atmosphere. People of all age came to the fair to visit it from different places. A village fair is held either of the bank of a river or a big dighi or by the side of a village bazaar. The site of a village fair is determined by the organizers.  They choose the suitable lace for its site.

Porter’s, carpenters, weavers and many small traders come to the fair to sell their products. Besides these, fancy goods, sweetmeats are also sold here, many people buy sweets from these fairs to take them home, children block around these shops and buy things according to their choice.

There are various types of village amusements in  a village fair. There are nagar Dolas,  jatra parties, circus parties, cinema, Folk Dances etc. in a village fair. There is great such of people at these places.

The uses of a village fair are very great, it provides for amusement to the village people and gives them scope for enjoyment. It helps small scale trade and business. The village fair encourages local art, industry. Agriculture and commerce.

A village fair is not free from abuses. The condition of the sanitation is not good there. So it often causes outbreak of epidemics.  In these fairs the bad elements of the society flock together and make the atmosphere vicious. Many kinds of gambling go round in the fair.

A village fair provides enjoy to the village people who have no other source of enjoyment.  It also helps the growth of cottage industries. It is a great recreation to the village people.
