EID-UL-FITR

Eid means pleasure Eid-ul-Fitr is the greatest religious festival of the Muslims all over the world. It is celebrated with great joy throughout the Muslims world. It comes every year near us with new enthusiasm and excitement.

Eid-ul-Fitr takes place on the first day of Shawwal. On this day, Muslims make charity and give a fixed amount of money to the poor. This is called `Fitra`. So the name of this festival is Eid-ul-Fitr.
On this day all rise very early. They go to the pond and have their bath. Then they dress themselves in the best and the finest clothes. Meanwhile the womenfolk prepare shemai and other kinds of sweets.

Then all of them take sweet with great joy and merriment. Sweet are also distributed among the poor, friends and relatives. Poor people gather at the houses of the rich and the rich give them money and clothes.

Then all proceed towards the `maidan` to offer prayers in congregation. Children also flock there. It is really an imposing sight when thousand of devote heads bow down to the almighty and rise again in union.

When the prayer is over the `khutba` or sermon is delivered by the leader of the congregation. In the course of the sermon he speaks about the merits of Ramadan and Fitra. He also exhorts people to be virtuous. At the end, people embrace one another forgetting all enmity among them. They come back to their respective Houser.

Eid-ul-Fitr has a great lesson for the Muslims. It teaches them love for all men and creates great bond of union among the Muslims.
